SUBJECT: Wickliffe PTO Weekly - What to watch for this week (3.7.2023)

Facebook
What to watch for this week:
Art Show and Flower Sale

We are excited to welcome all families (kids, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) to the second annual Wickliffe Art Show this Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. The event is an open house, so come whichever night works best for your schedule and see the artwork that your child has been working hard on this year on display.
Spring break is almost here and, we don't know about you, but we are ready for warmer weather and more time outside! What better way to get into the spring spirit then to start thinking about flowers and gardens. We hope you will participate in our Spring Flower Sale which is one of our strongest fundraisers this time of year. They have extended the deadline (because sales have been down) until next Wednesday, March 15, but I would order now because if you are like us you won't remember to do it over spring break. See details in the newsletter below.

Looking forward to seeing you all this week at the Art Show

Spring PTO After School Discovery

Registration for the spring PTO After School Discovery session starts this Tuesday, March 7, at 7 p.m., and there is a great lineup of classes! There are some fun, new classes, like yoyo-ing and an accessory making art class, and a real hawk will be coming to Wickliffe for Raptor Roadshow! Classes begin March 27. A handout should have come home in your child's backpack on Friday or yesterday. All the information is also on the PTO ASD website at www.wickliffepto.org/asd, including a scholarship application to aid with course registration fees. We also need at least one volunteer each week to help with dismissal - sign up here. We are looking forward to a great session!

The STAND Project

CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?

THURSDAY, MARCH 23 | 6-8 p.m. | UAHS Performing Arts Center

*For 18+ years of age. Recommended for parents of 5th-12th graders.

A collaboration with Hilliard HART (Health Awareness & Recovery Together), this interactive program will allow attendees to explore a simulated teen bedroom to identify potential warning signs of drug and alcohol use and risky behavior. First responders and school resource officers will also discuss local laws and current trends and concerns within the UA community regarding substance use and mental health.

THE DANGEROUS TRUTH ABOUT TODAY'S MARIJUANA

THURSDAY, APRIL 13 | 6:30-8 p.m. | UAHS Performing Arts Center

*For 18+ years of age. Younger teens must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Through the generosity of Upper Arlington Rotary and UAHS, The Stand Project welcomes Laura Stack, founder of Johnny's Ambassadors. After presenting to the full UAHS student body during the school day, Laura will devote an evening program to parents and adults in the community. She will weave her personal story throughout a FACT-based - not FEAR-based - science presentation about marijuana: truths vs myths, how drastically the substance has changed in recent years, and the many dangers that today's high-THC marijuana products pose - especially to young developing brains and bodies.

Help us stock the teachers' lounge!

We are doing a 6-week rotation. Now it is time for 2nd and 3rd grade families to contribute.

We love our teachers and want to stock their lounge!  Please sign up here and let everyone know what you are bringing so we make sure to provide everything they want. Please leave on the front steps of Katie McShane Peluso (Jack & Giulia's mom) at 2705 Kent Road or drop off in the teachers' lounge. Just note where you will drop off. Please have it dropped off by March 10. Thank you!

We need volunteers!

Lunch volunteers - new dates available
Our fabulous Chef Mike could use two volunteers every day for lunch. It is a super fun way to contribute and see all the students at lunch time. Sign up here:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4faaaf22a5f58-lunch

Chef Mike would love to have a list of subs who are available certain days of the week and can be called or contacted in case the person who signed up needs to cancel. This way if you can't make your shift you can look at the sub list and work on finding a replacement. Please click here to add yourself to the sub list.

Walking Club
We are looking for Walking Club volunteers! There are many spots available. Please review the available slots and click on the button to sign up. It's lots of fun! Thank you!

Love to run?

The PTO After School Discovery program is looking for adults with a passion for running. We would love to add a running club to the spring session of classes and are seeking an instructor. Class would be from 3-4 one day per week for 6 weeks. And, you would get paid! Please email wickliffeptoasd@gmail.com if you are interested. This would be so great for our kids!

Classroom helpers
The Wickliffe PTO is looking for some helpers. Our teachers have so much on their plates and we are looking to lighten their load by starting a room parent program. We have gathered teacher requests and are now looking to fill these spots. Do you have a few minutes a week to devote to this and want to learn more? Just fill out this form!

Thanks!
Desiree Hickey, Family Connect Chair

BoxTop for Education

BoxTop for Education

Dear Families,

Are you looking for a quick and easy way to support our school?

Box Tops for Education has been around for over 25 years, and it really can make a difference. In fact, the Box Tops program has helped give almost one billion dollars to schools since 1996.

The Box Tops app gives participants the ability to earn for any school across the country with just the touch of a button. Plus, the Box Tops app allows you to search for schools that could use a little extra help, so you can help give students in low-income schools the opportunity to succeed.
