  • PTO Open Positions for 2021/22 School Year: the PTO is looking for volunteers for the 21/22 school year. It doesn't have to be a big time commitment, any amount of time that you can give helps! Please reach out to Dawn Hofherr (dawn.kuritz@gmail.com),  Kelley Swiney (kelley.swiney@att.net) or the Wickliffe PTO email address (wickliffepto@gmail.com) for more information.
  • The PTO has updated the by-laws and the policy and procedures for governing the Wickliffe PTO. These documents can be accessed on the Wickliffe PTO website, by clicking here.

Please scroll to Counselor's Corner for the counseling team updates and also to read Dr. Kassoy's Food for Thought. Dr. Kassoy shares information on this year's theme for Earth Day "Restore Our Earth", and challenges us to try something new, with 20 ways we can save the earth as a family!

Check out the amazing art project the Wickliffe class of 2020 (last year's fifth graders) completed for our new school building - scroll to see the photos of the gorgeous beaded chandelier and read how it was made.

And finally, please check our calendar below for other important dates - including the Scholastic Bookfair, which will be at Wickliffe from May 10-14. Teacher appreciation week is next week, plus, NO SCHOOL next Tuesday (5/4).

Have a great week,

Kelley Swiney and the whole PTO

Adopt A Teacher/Staff Member!

We want to show the teachers and staff at Wickliffe how much we appreciate all of their hard work and support during the school year! We invite you to sign up and adopt a teacher or staff member for either a month or for the rest of the school year. Up to 3 families can sign up to adopt the same teacher/staff member.

During the time you have adopted the teacher/staff member let them know that you are thinking about them! Send them encouraging e-mails, mail them a card, drop off a small treat at the Front Office, etc.

You do not need to spend a lot of money adopting the teacher/staff member just let them know you and your family are thinking about them and are thankful for all of the hard work!

Sign up to adopt a teacher or staff member
The teachers/staff members completed a survey about their likes, favorite candy, etc. Click here to find out more about your teacher/staff member.

Wickliffe Class of 2020 Art Project
Wickliffe Class of 2020 Art Project:
In January of 2020, Wickliffe's fifth graders brainstormed, narrowed down ideas, and voted to create a beaded chandelier as their fifth grade class art project. They dyed over 6,000 wooden beads last spring before our year was cut short. On a Saturday morning in October, over 60 sixth graders came back to string beads in the Wickliffe parking lot. We even had a few kids string beads from their new homes, as far away as Wisconsin! Special Thank You to Mrs. Coplin, Mr. Williams, Ms. A, and all of the parent volunteers who came out to help.
I'm excited to share that the chandelier is finished! We're still waiting to get it installed, but here are some photos in the meantime. We look forward to a time, hopefully in the very near future, when you can come see it in person and visit us in our new building 🙂
Love,
Mrs. Bennett

Counselors' Corner
Counseling Team Updates

Morning Mindfulness will continue to meet on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:30-9:00. This group has become a very popular way for children to start their day. It is not too late to join!

Also, please note that IDEA Mentors will be meeting on Friday this week, not on Wednesday. Online Academy and homeschooled students are invited to attend via Zoom (https://zoom.us/j/7191866057)

And a reminder that this amazing group of social justice advocates will be creating a *wish tree* for the Wickliffe community to focus on our individual and collective hopes and dreams that we have to make our school, neighborhood, and world a more just and equitable place. We encourage you to brainstorm with your children ideas that they might want to add to our tree.

This activity will be done in school, so no need to do anything at home other than engage your children in conversations about what matters to them.

Please be on the lookout for this tree to emerge early in May in the front of the school.

Dr. Kassoy's Food For Thought

This past Thursday, April 22 was Earth Day. It was established as an international event celebrated around the world to pledge support for environmental protection. The year 2021 marks the 51st anniversary of the annual celebrations. This year's theme for Earth Day is 'Restore Our Earth'.

As we begin to emerge from this pandemic, it is a good time to renew our commitment to being eco-conscious.

This article from National Geographic provides 20 ways to save the earth as a family. Personal actions can make a difference. I encourage you to share this with your children and friends and challenge yourselves to try something new!
