Facebook
What to Watch for This Week:

Hello Wickliffe families,

Happy Harvest! This week, make a difference on:

  • Wednesday (10/28) by ordering from Cucos Taqueria - they will donate 20% of your check to benefit our school when you mention Wickliffe or show the flyer.
  • and, join us on Friday at 4pm and/or Sunday at 1pm for our Beautification Clean up. Also, please consider donating any of the nature based play items on our Wickliffe wishlist.

All week, you can send in non-perishable food and personal care items that Mrs. Oberlin's 5th class will be taking to the Heart to Heart food pantry. It's a great way for our students to share the harvest, while they enjoying their class parties and dressing up.

Our sponsor spotlight is on Johnson Orthodontics, thank you for generously sponsoring our PTO.

We are partnering with Square 1 Art again this year, hybrid learners are working with Mrs Bennett to complete their art. Online Academy families, watch out for the Square 1 Art form that will be coming home with your workbooks this week.

And, we are looking for parents to be a representative for your child's class for our new PTO family connections committee, if you are interested or have questions, let us know at wickliffepto@gmail.com.

Don't miss Counselors' Corner: read on for Dr. Kassoy's food for thought, which is on compassion and empathy and includes a wonderful book list.

Finally, check the calendar for important dates coming up. Wednesday is early release at 12:05pm (and no kindergarten classes) for parent teacher conferences, and the PTO will be supporting our amazing teachers with dinner as they work late.

Warmly,

Kelley Swiney and the whole PTO.

Beautification Fall Cleanup - Join Us!

JOIN US! Our beautification committee has organized a Fall cleanup this week, with an opportunity for you to volunteer twice ;)

  • Friday, Oct. 30 after school, from 4pm
  • and then Sunday, Nov. 1st 1-3 pm.

We are removing old flower beds and painting the white fence at the castle. The condition of the fence means we need to prime it first and then paint it, hence the two days. Any and all welcome, dress to get dirty and possibly paint splattered. Thank you!

Square 1 Art
Square 1 Art is an annual project we do at Wickliffe to support the PTO and we are excited for the opportunity to do it again this year with both our hybrid students and our online academy students!
Students in hybrid are currently working with Mrs Bennett to complete their art. Online Academy students will receive their Square 1 Art form and instructions in their take home materials this week. We will also have forms and instructions available in the office.
All forms need to be completed by November 10. Once submitted to Square 1 Art, students' art will be printed on stickers and delivered to the school. Families will then have the option to purchase products with their child's artwork.
Please contact Dawn Hofherr with any questions.

Be the PTO representative for your child's class

The PTO is launching a new committee within the PTO with the hopes of bringing our classes and grades together, even if we can't be together in the way we are used to.  In order to do this we need your help.  Would you be interested in being a representative for your child's class serving on a grade level committee?  If so, please let us know.  Check out the link to our PTO website.  Please know this will not be a time intensive commitment but rather a way to get involved in keeping our classrooms and families connected to the school.

Family Connections

Thank you for considering and if you are interested please send an email with your grade level and class in the subject line to wickliffepto@gmail.com. Kelley Swiney and Dawn Hofherr would love to hear from you.

Dr. Kassoy's Food For Thought

As the month of October is coming to an end, I have been reflecting on my classroom visits. One of my favorite lessons is introducing the concept of empathy to our first graders. In my search for new picture books, I found a great list that I wanted to share with you.

https://www.huffpost.com/childrens-books-empathy-kindness

In addition, I found an interesting article that outlined a few strategies that families can use to instill empathy in their children. I hope this list resonates with you.

Talk About Feelings

  1. Use Media To Your Advantage
  2. Set An Example
  3. Acknowledge Children’s Acts Of Kindness
  4. Expose Them To Differences
  5. Own Up To Your Mistakes
  6. Make Kindness A Family Activity

Until next week,

Felice, Brittany and Rebecca (my two fabulous interns)
